Knockdown Shot

The knockdown shot is a vital tool for any golfer, it can be used to extricate your ball from the trees and to secure safe passage to fairway or green in heavy winds.

The first step is to place the ball in the right-center of your stance, this delofts the club at impact causing the ball to fly lower and the further you position the ball to the right the lower it will fly. Next grip down an inch this will enhance your control over the club and make it easier to make a ¾ swing.  For the knockdown shot a ¾ backswing should be your maximum length of swing because anything longer will decrease your chances of striking the ball solidly. Also if you are attempting this shot out of heavy rough I would suggest to not use anything longer than a 5-iron because a certain amount of loft is needed to free the ball from the rough.

The knockdown shot will fly low with little spin so the wind has little effect on it, because of the low spin the ball will roll excessively so give it room to stop when choosing your target.
